The Boston Harborwalk: Places To Go...: Downtown/North End  April 8, 2015 – 02:30 pm
The Best Places to See in Boston, MA

Two hundred years ago, most of the wharves of Downtown Boston were busy mooring areas, where clipper ships from around the world brought goods to and from Boston Harbor. Today, the HarborWalk along Boston's Downtown and North End are dominated by a vibrant mix of cultural and recreational resources, parks and open spaces, and residential and business uses. The HarborWalk that stretches from the elegant Boston Harbor Hotel along the Downtown wharves to Puopolo Park in the North End is some of the most well maintained and highly visited in the city. Whether visiting with penguins at the New England Aquarium, strolling among the wisteria in Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park, or taking a dip in the Mirabella Pool, this portion of the HarborWalk is certain to entertain and delight.

A section of the United States Coast Guard Base HarborWalk has recently re-opened after closing for security reasons following September 11. This section is accessible through an entrance adjacent to Mirabella Pool and includes a circular seating area and wooden pier. The HarborWalk here provides seating as well as views of Coast Guard vessels docked alongside the base, and is open seasonally from May to November.

You need to visit places

Many cities do not have one "downtown" area. For example, in NYC, "Downtown" is a neighborhood. Same with Boston. In fact, Downtown Boston has fewer amentities for residents than neighborhoods such as the Back Bay or the South End.
As for a "small loft", do you mean an actual loft, as in a former wharehouse/industrial building?
What is your budget for rent?

Consider South Boston for value+

South Boston may be of interest. Esp. the east side or City Point area. (Personally, I'm not a fan of west side, but it is getting popular.) S.B. is not in the hub of city, but close to it and a "best of both worlds" kind of place. You can find a loft for $2K with parking & nice amenities. (The Foundry or 881 E. First St.) You'd be near shopping, restaurants (existing & new ones in Seaport), Castle Island, miles of walkways, water and still only a short ride or invigorating walk to downtown. Easy access to all major highways, lots of bus routes, the T & silverline. Many hidden gems to explore. Many places in S
