Massachusetts Tourist Information

Massachusetts is one of the oldest and most historically significant states in the union. The state is the site of the first long-term settlements on the continent, the site of the first seats of government in on the continent and the birthplace of the American Revolution and the fight for democracy and freedom. The state of Massachusetts has always been at the forefront of social, political and cultural change in the United States and today that is not different. Massachusetts is home to some of the most historically and culturally significant sites in the country including the legendary city of Boston.

The state is situated at the base of the New England Peninsula and is situated around a large bay. The state is home to a large shipping industry and has several ports. The state has evolved from one which was primarily agricultural based to one that was based on industry to a state whose economy is based mostly on services and research today. The Massachusetts of today is a bastion of higher education, health care, technology, and financial services. The state is also a leader in cultural and political reform, being among the first to institute ground breaking legislation in regard to universal healthcare, same gender equality, cannabis regulation, and environmental oversight. Massachusetts is a rich and vibrant state with a diverse population and a commitment to not only its history, but also its future.

The Boston Museum of Fine Arts is one of the oldest and most respected art institutions in the country. The Museum houses one of the world's most comprehensive collections of impressionist's paintings and also has an extensive collection of Native American art, Judaic and Asian art and privately held Egyptian antiquities and art. The museum is known for its outreach programs including activities for older children, adult enrichment and exposure programs, and cultural education programs.

The Samuel Adams Brewery offers the opportunity to see where one of the most unique and beloved brands of beer in the world is created. The Samuel Adams brewery offers guided tours of their entire facility which lasts about an hour and offer you the chance to taste one of their seasonal or developmental beers at the end (so make sure you bring your ID showing age). While the tour is free, a $2 donation is requested to help support the Samuel Adams Foundation which benefits local Boston charities of all types.

The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum commemorated the life and presidency of one of the most loved and at the same time most controversial leaders in American history. The Museum includes the world largest collection of JFK and Kennedy Family artifacts and memorabilia. Visitors can follow the life of John Kennedy, learn about his groundbreaking presidency, The challenges that the country faced during his years in office including the equal rights struggles and the threat of communism, and most importantly the fateful day in 1963 when he was assassinated as well as the controversy and conspiracy theories that have followed it for more than half a century.

My personal recommendation--go to the Topsfield Fair in the fall. I think it's the oldest or something like that. Loads of fun, including 4H exhibits.
