Last updated September 7, 2007 8:36 a.m. PT State official detained over 3 peaches THE ASSOCIATED PRESS BOSTON -- A top state official learned firsthand how it feels to be suspected of smuggling at Logan International Airport. Customs agents caught his teenage daughter with contraband: three peaches from Italy. State Treasurer Tim Cahill said he and his family were detained and treated like criminals after they failed to declare the fruit and officers found it. It felt like we were being interrogated and found guilty without any process, no explanation, no rundown of our…

Caesars Entertainment hasn’t landed the casino license for the Boston region yet, but that hasn’t stopped one of the company’s top executives from joining the region’s tourism board. John Payne, Caesars’ president for central markets and partnership development, has been elected to a three-year term on the board of the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau. Pat Moscaritolo, the bureau’s CEO, tells me Payne’s first meeting will be in November. It will probably take much longer than that before we learn which resort casino proposal wins the license for the Greater…

Boston Tourism Waterfront

Boston Tourism Waterfront

Boston’s NEW Waterfront owes much to many. Transforming what were once no more than clam flats into what many predict will become the new heart of Boston, is an incredible opportunity. It is both inspiring and alive with possibilities. And it is something we do as a community, for what we create here will define us and the city we love to the world. Everyone plays a role—whether you shop, work or dine here; whether you live in neighborhood, have come down for the day or flew across country for a trade show. Our actions and reactions suggest new responses that, in turn, help…

Visitors to the USS Constitution could only get as close as the closed gate Tuesday at the Charlestown Navy shipyard due to the Government shutdown. PHOTO BY NICOLAUS CZARNECKI/METRO Tourists visiting the Hub can still enjoy most of the city’s famous historical sites despite a temporary shutdown of the federal government, but according to a local expert, a drawn out halt wouldn’t bode well for the Boston tourism industry. “One of the main reasons people come to Boston and Cambridge is because of historical tourism. There is no question that national parks and facilities play…

Boston Tourism winter

Been there about ten years ago, on business. Pretty much a vacation area. I referred to it as Lobsterland . In addition to tourism only other industry is fishing and small manufacturing. Nice area though maybe too cold for some during the winter. Pretty laid back, nice quiet community for artists and independent types. Points of interest are Freeport (Home of L.L.Bean) and summer home of first President Bush in Kennebunkport. Nice if you re into the outdoors, largest big city is Boston. Local economy maybe in a slump, I don t have any recent information.108007219_XS.jpg
